The Crime of Rejecting the Stimulus Money

I had one of those out of body experiences today when a list of the 20 most dangerous states showed up on AOL. The top 8 states included five states that the governors are rejecting at least a portion of the stimulus money. Money that includes additional policeman, education, unemployment assistance. We already know that there is a correlation of problems in school with crime.

These governors should be on the wall of SHAME -

Nevada the number 1 state in crime
Louisiana - the number 2 state in crime
South Carolina - the number 3 state in crime
Tennessee - the number 6th state in crime
ALASKA - the number 7th state in crime.

Is this what we expect from our leaders. Shame on you for not caring about your state and the people that most need the help.

Mothers Lament

Johnny started school today
and came home all in pieces.
What’s a mother to do?
Listen to me. Hold my hand. Look
both ways. Mind your P’s and Q’s.
Never talk to strangers. Tuck
in your shirt. Avoid troublemakers.
Respect your elders. Eat your peas.
And you’ll grow to be strong and sure.

Johnny went to school today.

Rat-a-tat-tat rat-a-tat-tat
rounds and rounds of ammunition
ring around the rifle we all fall down.

and he came home all in pieces.
